1959 was a year where the tension between the U.S and
Soviet union cooled down temporarily. Nixon's visit to the USSR, and Khrushchev's visit to the United States allowed each side the opportunity to experience the others culture, as well as meet to the people. The meetings at Camp David, and the Big Four foreign ministers conference provided both sides with the forum to express their concerns regarding cold war issues. Despite the fact that no formal agreements were made, or treaties signed, these meetings greatly reduced the chance of nuclear war. |
